Black-and-white portrait of Susanna B. Klingenberg smiling outdoors

Susanna B. Klingenberg makes up stories for kids. She also asks grown-ups a lot of nosy questions. She loves both of her jobs.

Her words have appeared in Outside magazine, Our State, WALTER, PineStraw, The News & Observer, and Park Advocate. She's got a story coming soon in HIGHLIGHTS, which you should read because it's about apples—the best fruit, as everyone knows.

Raleigh, the city in North Carolina where Susanna lives, recently asked her to write a picture book about A Place at the Table, which is a pay-what-you-can café. The book has pictures by a local portrait artist and mural-maker, and you should probably read that story, too. It doesn't have apples, but it does have waffles.

She lives in an old downtown bungalow with her husband and two kids, a sometimes-cat, and a front-yard vegetable garden. Also: reader, runner, kitchen adventurer, cello player, question asker, kid raiser, slow hiker, and spy aficionado.
